Unit 7, Session 5: Joshua’s Final Encouragement (Preschool-Gr.4)
This week we will listen in as Joshua shares his final words of encouragement to Israel. Joshua is near the end of his life, and like Moses, he addresses the people to point them to God. They had a choice to make: choose to follow God or choose to follow the false gods. They couldn’t do both.
As Joshua prepared for his own death, he left a legacy of obedience to God. After Jesus’ death and resurrection, He appeared to the disciples and left them with a legacy: to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything Jesus commanded. (Matthew 28:19-20)
Help your children see that they have the same choice to make today. They may not be tempted to worship little statues, but they can worship plenty of other things besides God.

DEFENSE: Preteen Curriculum
How often have you had to defend your faith? Did you know the answers when someone, maybe even your own kid, asked you, “Who is Jesus?” Finding the words to explain heavenly concepts can be quite difficult.
Over the next few weeks, your preteen will be exploring the idea of defending his or her faith through the LifeWay Preteens FLYTE curriculum. Specifically, we’ll be attempting to answer several questions about the topic:
Session 1 (Last Week, April 24th): What Do Christians Believe About God?
Bible passage: Job 42; Psalm 139:7-8; 147:4-50
Session 2 (This week, May 1st): Who Is Jesus? Bible passage: Matthew 28; John 3:16-17; 21:5-7; 1 John 4:2
Session 3 (May 8th): Is Jesus the Only Way? Bible passage: Isaiah 45:21; John 14:6; Galatians 2:16; Ephesians 2:8-9
Session 4 (May 15th): What Happens When Christians Die? Bible passage: John 14:1-3; 1 Corinthians 15:50-58
The purpose of these lessons is to prepare your preteen to share his or her faith. Christians face a multitude of questions and doubt on the part of nonbelievers. It is important that we equip our young people with the answers to these questions and to do so from a biblical perspective.
I would encourage you to help your preteen memorize John 3:16-17 during this unit. Be prepared to ask your preteen the answers to the above questions. Help your preteen know why it is important to not only know what you believe, but also why you believe!
I am so excited about this unit, and I hope you and your preteens are too!
