We value children and their families! Each is gift from God, created uniquely, with a different story. We want every child and their family to know they are part of God’s story – a story that gives life and freedom!

We work diligently to offer programs that:

  • support parents in their God-given roles
  • nurture kids in a variety of ways to help them experience the excitement and sweetness of knowing God’s love and learning to love
  • endeavour to keep our children and leaders safe. Plan to Protect is a policy we use to guide this process.

Sunday Mornings:

After joining corporate worship for welcome and singing on Sunday mornings, children are invited to attend age-appropriate and fun Bible-based programs.  Care is also offered for all infants and toddlers.  Sign-in and sign-out are required up to grade 4 to keep our children’s areas safe.

Please register your children for all programs and practice signing in and out weekly.

Ministry Leaders

  • Malorie Petersen

Director of Children & Family Ministries -

Malorie and her husband, Adam, are new parents with a young daughter. They both grew up in Grande Prairie, were high school sweethearts, and were married in 2006. Prior to ministry, Malorie was employed as a teacher with the Grande Prairie Public School District for four years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Bachelor of Education in Language Arts and Drama. In keeping with the focus of her degrees, Malorie loves teaching, writing, discussing, and dramatizing new learning and has a heart for mentoring.

Malorie hopes to be a leader of leaders and would like nothing more than to equip children, parents, and children’s leaders to love God and love others through the gifts and talents they have been uniquely blessed with. Her goal is to foster maturing faith in others by building knowledge, nurturing relationships with God and others, and encouraging righteous action in day-to-day life.

Her approach to ministry is team-focused and discipleship-based to empower individuals to contribute their strengths to the ministry. She desires that all believers–big or small–find their place in God’s Big Picture and that each has an opportunity to learn, grow, and help others.

“Live freely, animated and motivated by God’s Spirit. Then you won’t feed the compulsions of selfishness…What happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely…Since this is the kind of life we have chosen, the life of the Spirit, let us make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in every detail of our lives. That means we will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original.”
    (Galatians 5:16, 22-23, 25-26 MSG)

  • Kaitlyn Wilkinson

    Children's Ministry Administrator -

Kaitlyn joined the Church of Christ staff as our part-time Children’s Ministry Administrator in the autumn of 2015.

She was born and raised in Grande Prairie and has been very involved at our church as a participant and volunteer for many years in many ministry areas – from Youth Group (participant and then leader for 3 yrs), Worship ministries (started at the age of 12), The Band (a discipleship group for young adults), Coffee house events (live music and lattes), Studio Y? (a mid-week musical theatre club for kids), Summer camps (at Pineridge and off-site trips with youth group), Glory Garden (worked there for 3 years) and she was baptized here in Fall 2002 – Kayte is truly “one of ours”.

She met her husband, Tristan, a number of years ago through the local music scene here in GP and they have been married since June 2012. Together they take on each day as a new adventure and look forward to what the future brings.

Kaitlyn is a firm believer that jumping in puddles is something adults need to do more often in order to relieve stress and laugh at themselves.

A favourite verse of hers is Hebrews 6:19, and serves a great reminder to us all: “We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain.”

  • Sheena Jones

    Database / PTP Administrator -

Sheena’s early years were spent in Edmonton with her parents and three siblings. After graduating high school, she moved to Calgary where she attended Alberta Bible College and SAIT. During this time she met (and later married) Alan. The couple moved to Grande Prairie when Alan was called by the Grande Prairie Church of Christ. In 1984 they were blessed with the birth of their son Andrew.

When she’s not busy working or volunteering around the church, Sheena likes to spend her time in artistic ways including painting and crafts. Sheena loves children and values a creative learning environment. She strongly believes that children can learn of God’s love from infancy, and her desire is that they would experience church as a safe place to grow, learn and serve!

Some favourite scriptures are: Isaiah 55:89, Jeremiah 29:11 and the story of Hannah!
